Recommended Devices for New Installations

As retail environments become more data-intensive, we have identified two newer puck-style devices that offer better performance than traditional stick devices. We recommend these for all new setups and upgrades.

Option 1 — Google TV Streamer 4K (Professional Choice)

Best for: High-traffic dispensaries requiring maximum uptime and reliability.

  • Enterprise-grade memory: 4 GB RAM (double the FireStick 4K Max), ensuring smooth POS data syncing and inventory transitions

  • Built-in Ethernet port: Provides a direct wired internet connection for rock-solid stability without needing extra adapters

  • Superior cooling: Puck-style design prevents the overheating common with stick devices hidden behind displays

  • Approx. price: $99.99 USD / $129.99 CAD

Option 2 — Onn 4K Pro (Best Value)

Best for: Clients seeking a cost-effective upgrade with professional features.

  • Enhanced performance: 3 GB RAM provides a significant boost over standard media sticks

  • Integrated Ethernet port and USB port for expansion

  • Google Play Store for straightforward app installation

  • Approx. price: $49.88 USD / ~$75.00 CAD (Walmart exclusive — ensure you select the Pro version)

Why puck-style devices?

Both recommended devices offer better background processing, faster inventory refresh rates, and lower hardware failure rates due to improved heat management compared to stick-style devices.

If you are opening a new location or currently experiencing frequent app crashes on a FireStick, we strongly recommend switching to one of the devices above.

FireStick — Still Supported

Amazon FireStick devices are still fully supported and you can continue to purchase and use them. However, for new setups or stores experiencing instability, we recommend the Google TV Streamer or Onn 4K Pro. If purchasing a FireStick, the FireStick 4K Max version must be purchased.

What's Not Compatible

  • Smart TVs running their own OS (Samsung Tizen, LG webOS, etc.) — these cannot run the Budvue app directly

  • Roku devices

  • Apple TV

  • ChromeBit and MiniX devices — these are no longer sold or supported for new setups (legacy support only)
