Promo TV: Black Screen Between Ads

Device: Promo TV (Edgeworth screen, BuzzTV, DS1 or FireStick)
Issue: The screen goes black for a few seconds between each advertisement.

Use this article when: Your Promo TV is functioning but flashes to a black screen briefly between each ad in the playlist.

Do not use this article if:

  • The entire screen is black and not recovering — see BuzzTV / DS1: Black Screen instead.


What This Means

A brief black screen between ads is usually caused by a mismatch between a video file's actual duration and the play time set for it in the Budvue Dashboard. The player finishes the video but then waits for the configured time to elapse before moving to the next ad.


Steps

Step 1: Check Custom Video Play Times in the Dashboard

  1. Log in to the Budvue Dashboard at dashboard.budvue.com.

  2. Navigate to your playlist and review any custom videos you have uploaded.

  3. For each custom video, check that the designated play time matches the actual duration of the video file.

  4. If there is a mismatch, correct the play time and save your changes.

Expected result: Play times match video durations; black screen between ads is eliminated.

Step 2: Restart the Device

After making any changes in the Dashboard, power cycle the device to apply them:

  1. Unplug the power cord from the wall.

  2. Wait 30 seconds.

  3. Plug it back in and allow the device to restart.

Expected result: Updated play times take effect; ads transition cleanly.


Resolution

If the black screen between ads no longer occurs after correcting the play times and restarting, no further action is needed.
