If your Amazon FireStick switches to a basic menu screen or plays movie trailers, one of the following causes may be responsible:
1. Screensaver or Ambient Experience
Description: Fire TV activates a screensaver mode after a period of inactivity. This can include promotional content and trailers.
Why It Happens at Night: The screensaver might start playing if the device is idle.
How to Check/Disable:
Navigate to: Settings > Display & Sounds > Screensaver and or Settings > Display & Sounds> Ambient Experience
Adjust the Start Time
Change the Screensaver Type or set it to None
Turn off Ambient Experience
2. Parental Controls or Alexa Routines
Description: Scheduled routines or parental controls may be configured to activate.
How to Check:
Alexa App: Go to More > Routines and check for anything scheduled at 10 PM.
Fire TV Settings: Go to Settings > Preferences > Parental Controls to inspect any time-based settings. If possible and warranted, turn off Parental Controls.
4. Amazon UI Refresh Behavior
Description: Amazon may push UI refreshes or promotional updates during off-peak hours (like late at night), temporarily resetting the interface.
Solution: This is usually temporary and cannot be disabled directly.
5. Third-Party App Behavior
Description: If you're using a custom launcher or third-party app, it might revert to the Fire TV Home interface after being idle or updated.
Solution: Check for app-specific settings or reinstall the launcher if needed. Remove all apps except the Budvue/Clickspacetv app.
6. HDMI-CEC Settings from TV
Behavior: Your Smart TV may send commands to the Fire Stick via HDMI-CEC, such as waking it or switching inputs.
What You Can Do:
On Fire Stick: Settings > Display & Sounds > HDMI CEC Device Control → Disable
On your TV: Disable HDMI-CEC or any input/sleep timers
7. TV Input or Power Management Timers
Behavior: Some TVs have scheduled tasks or startup settings that could interfere.
What You Can Do:
Check your TV’s system menu for scheduled tasks or “smart start” features
Disable any input-switch or app-launch settings
8. Network Drop or Wi-Fi Disruption
Behavior: Loss of network connectivity can cause FireStick to revert to the default Amazon experience.
What You Can Do:
Ensure your router isn’t set to reboot or power save overnight
9. Power Supply Instability
Behavior: Power interruptions or use of an underpowered USB port can cause restarts.
What You Can Do:
Always use the official Amazon power adapter plugged directly into a wall outlet
10. External Apps (Launchers, IPTV, Ad Injectors)
Behavior: Some sideloaded apps or launchers may cause interface overrides or push trailers.
What You Can Do:
Navigate to: Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications
Review unfamiliar apps. Uninstall all other apps.
Revoke “Draw over other apps” permissions if applicable.
11. Amazon Promotions or UI Experiments
Behavior: Amazon may dynamically push content carousels or ads based on time or idle state.
What You Can Do:
Go to Settings > Preferences > Privacy Settings
Turn Interest-Based Ads to OFF
Be aware: there’s no complete way to disable Amazon’s promotional banners
12. Ad autoplay
Behavior: To prevent your Firestick from playing ads when you turn it on
What You Can Do:
navigate to Settings > Preferences > Featured Content and turn off Allow Video Autoplay and Allow Audio Autoplay
