FireStick: Screen Showing Amazon Content or Movie Trailers

Device: Amazon FireStick / Fire TV
Issue: The screen has switched away from the Budvue menu and is showing Amazon home content, movie trailers, or an Amazon screensaver.

Use this article when: Your FireStick has gone idle and reverted to Amazon's default content instead of staying on the Budvue menu.

Do not use this article if:

  • The TV input is switching on its own — see FireStick: Screen Switching Inputs or Waking On Its Own instead (this is an HDMI-CEC issue).


What This Means

The FireStick has a built-in screensaver and ambient video feature that activates after a period of inactivity. The settings below disable these features so the Budvue app runs uninterrupted.


Steps

Step 1: Disable the Screensaver

  1. Go to Settings (gear or profile icon at the top of the Fire TV home screen).

  2. Select Display & Sounds.

  3. Select Screensaver.

  4. Change the screensaver type to None, or set the start time to the maximum available delay.

Expected result: Screensaver no longer activates.

Step 2: Turn Off Ambient Experience

While still in Display & Sounds, find Ambient Experience and turn it Off.

Expected result: Ambient background videos no longer play.

Step 3: Disable Ad Autoplay

Amazon can automatically play video ads when the device is idle.

  1. Go to Settings → Preferences → Featured Content.

  2. Turn off Allow Video Autoplay.

  3. Turn off Allow Audio Autoplay.

Expected result: Amazon ads and videos no longer play automatically.

Step 4: Disable Interest-Based Ads

  1. Go to Settings → Preferences → Privacy Settings.

  2. Set Interest-Based Ads to Off.

Expected result: Amazon interest-based ad content no longer appears.


Resolution

After completing these steps, the FireStick should stay on the Budvue app without reverting to Amazon content. If the Budvue app was closed, reopen it from the home screen.
